Impairment Details
She has had scoliosis, a condition that causes a curvature of the spine, since childhood. "I had a hump on my back and my height was decreased by 10 centimetres. My back hurt so badly and, in addition, I would get short of breath and could not walk for a long time. Inside all my organs were being squeezed, including my heart and lungs. I would not wish it on anyone." In 2014, at age 13, she underwent surgery to fix titanium screws into her spine. (ugoria.tv, 06 Mar 2018; ugra-news.ru, 03 Nov 2017)

General
EARLY STRUGGLES
She believes her love for swimming meant she persisted with the sport despite being in agony after the operation she underwent at age 13 to insert titanium screws in her back to treat her scoliosis. "When I returned after surgery, I could do absolutely nothing, even simple things like putting on my clothes. My mother helped me to do everything. Nobody really believed in me, except for my first coach and my parents. Every training session was a nightmare. I screamed in the changing rooms from the pain. My bones ached but I survived because I love it." (ugoria.tv, 06 Mar 2018; ugra-news.ru, 03 Nov 2017)
