General Interest

General
Egypt qualified for Tokyo after beating host nation Rwanda at the African championships in 2019. With the exception of the 1996 Games, Egypt have appeared at every edition of the Paralympic Games since 1980, and were the first African nation to compete in men's sitting volleyball at the Games.

Egypt first contested for a Paralympic medal at the 2000 Games in Sydney when they lost the bronze medal match to Finland, but claimed victory over Germany in five sets to win bronze in Athens four years later. In Beijing in 2008 they made the bronze medal match again, but this time went down in five sets to the Russian Federation. At London 2012 their progress was halted in the quarterfinals by eventual gold medallists Bosnia and Herzegovina, but four years later in Rio de Janeiro they returned to the third step on the podium, defeating the host nation 3-2 to claim their second Paralympic medal.

The Egyptian team have also regularly contested the bronze medal match at the world championships, appearing in the third-place match at four consecutive editions of the tournament from 2002 to 2014. They took home bronze on two of those occasions, in 2006 against Germany, and 2010 against the Russian Federation.

At the 2018 edition in the Netherlands, however, they failed to contest for a world championship medal for the first time in five appearances. They finished second in their pool after wins over Poland and Iraq and defeat to Bosnia and Herzegovina, but succumbed to the Islamic Republic of Iran 3-1 in the quarterfinals. In their first classification match they defeated the Chinese team, before ending their campaign with a straight sets loss to the Russian Federation in the fifth-place playoff.
