Her father bought her a rifle and took her to a local shooting range, where she discovered she had a talent for shooting. "What does a young kid know about a firearm? It was just fun at that point. I didn't really think of it as being a challenge. I just wanted to do it." She later joined the 4-H Shooting Sports Program, a youth organisation administered by the National Institute of Food and Agriculture of the United States Department of Agriculture.
