He has been a sports enthusiast since an early age. He practised volleyball, basketball and baseball before entering an amputee football league. He competed in Para powerlifting and has also taken part in marathon, skyscraper and obstacle races as well as triathlons. With the goal of competing in the Paralympic Games he switched to Para rowing. "I have long arms and Para rowing suited me well to look for a qualifying berth for [the 2020 Paralympic Games in] Tokyo. I did a tryout and my coach liked it. Then I committed myself to train every day to reach that goal." (esto.com.mx, 02 Jan 2021; olympics.com, 31 Aug 2020; 24-horas.mx, 31 Oct 2018)

General
SKATEBOARD
Since age 11 he decided to use a skateboard instead of a wheelchair. "I have always been an independent person who likes to do things by himself. Where we lived there are plenty of steep roads and it was very tough for my grandmother who took me to school. In high school I took the decision of moving on a skateboard, to be more independent. As my arms are very strong I had no problems with it. The skateboard helped me because I was able to move faster and did not have to do a major effort. I think that we have to transform our weaknesses into our strengths. As I know that I miss [my legs] I can use other tools such as my arms to use them as my legs to be able to move and to do everything by my own without depending on someone else." (olympics.com, 31 Aug 2020)

PERSONAL PLANS
He wants to become a sports and fitness coach once his competitive career is over. "I want my daughter to practise sports, I hope she likes them so I could train her. I want to have that role, and to have a training school where low income people could get access." (esto.com.mx, 02 Jan 2021)
