At age 19 she was struck by bus while crossing the road, and underwent five surgeries on her left knee as a result of her injuries. In 2013 she sustained further damage to her knee after she was pushed by a pupil while working as an education consultant. She was diagnosed with premature wear to her left knee and neuropathic pain, and underwent a five-year course of morphine-based therapy. In January 2021 she began serving as a member of the Armee des Champions, a sporting group of the French armed forces.
