SANCTION
He was suspended from competing at the 2012 Paralympic Games in London after testing positive for a banned substance in an out-of-competition test days before the opening ceremony. He told an International Paralympic Committee [IPC] hearing that the diuretic and masking agent hydrochlorothiazide found its way into his system via green tea tablets he consumed the day before the test. The IPC conducted its own tests on the tablets and found they did contain the prohibited substance, despite it not being stated on the bottle's list of ingredients. He subsequently received a nine-month competition ban instead of the standard two years, beginning in August 2012 and ending in May 2013.
