General Interest

General
The People's Republic of China found immediate success in men's goalball, winning gold at the 2008 Games on their Paralympic debut. In front of a home crowd in Beijing they beat Finland and the United States of America in the knockout stages, before claiming gold with a 9-8 victory over Lithuania. The Chinese team had been 6-2 down at half-time.

They were unable to repeat their success at the 2012 Games in London, however, as Lithuania gained revenge and knocked them out of the quarterfinals with a convincing 12-4 scoreline. The Chinese team were again eliminated at the quarterfinal stage in Rio in 2016, going down 10-3 to hosts Brazil.

At the most recent edition of the world championships in 2018, the Chinese team were eliminated in the quarterfinals 8-0 by eventual runners-up Germany.

The People's Republic of China qualified for the 2020 Paralympic Games after claiming victory at the 2019 Asia/Oceania Championships held in Tokyo in December 2019.
