She was introduced to goalball by a colleague in 2016 and began playing at Ohio State School for the Blind in Columbus, OH, United States of America. She took up the sport competitively in 2017. "In 2016, my good friend Jim Debus and I were co-workers. He was very persistent that I attend a practice with the Columbus team. I was a little hesitant because I never heard of goalball and haven't been a part of any adapted sports. It was intriguing, but when I went, it looked intimidating because of these high-level athletes throwing the ball at each other." (teamusa.org, 01 Jan 2018)
:
She competed in able-bodied football and cross-country running up to high school level. After attending her first tournament in Michigan state in the United States of America in 2017, she became hooked on the sport and the goalball community. "That's where I really fell in love with the sport. I saw this community coming together with visual impairment competing in a sport they love. The atmosphere was electric. For me, it was a way for me to compete as an athlete first instead of having to adapt to a sport as an athlete with a visual impairment. I found goalball to be empowering. It gave me confidence."
