Brazil qualified for the 2020 Paralympic Games by winning the 2018 World Championship in Madrid, Spain. The team are looking for their fifth consecutive gold medal in Tokyo, having won gold at each edition of the Games in which football 5-a-side has been part of the programme. The Brazilian team are also yet to lose a match at the Paralympic Games.

As hosts in Rio in 2016, Brazil topped their group after recording two wins and a draw. Victory over the People's Republic of China in the semifinals was followed by a 1-0 win over the Islamic Republic of Iran in the final.

Brazil have dominated the world championships, winning gold at the last three editions of the tournament to bring their total number of world titles to five. In their most recent victory in 2018, they overcame continental rivals Argentina 2-0 in the final. It has been a similar story at the Parapan American Games, where Brazil have won gold at all four tournaments since the sport was introduced at the 2007 Games in Rio de Janeiro. They have beaten Argentina in all four of the finals.
