General Interest

General
Argentina qualified for Tokyo 2020 by reaching the final of the 2019 IBSA Blind Football American Championships. They are making their fifth appearance at the Paralympic Games and are looking for their first gold medal, having claimed bronze in 2008 and 2016 and silver in 2004.

At Athens 2004, the Argentinians lost the final on penalties to Brazil. Four years later in Beijing, their performance in the group stage was only enough to reach the bronze medal match where they beat Spain in a penalty shootout to secure third place. The team went home empty-handed from the 2012 Games in London after losing to Brazil in the semifinals on penalties, and then suffering another shootout defeat in the bronze medal match to Spain. Argentina again qualified for the bronze medal match at Rio 2016, and this time the shootout went their way with victory over the People's Republic of China.

The Argentinian team are two-time gold medallists at the world championships, securing the title in 2002 and 2006. They were ranked seventh in 2010, and were losing finalists to Brazil in both 2014 and 2018.
