Impairment Details
In 1998 she was involved in a car accident that left her with no strength in her right arm and 60% strength in her right leg. Her fiance and her brother both died in the accident. After a long period of rehabilitation, she continued riding and was competing again within a year. However, before her second competition she tried to mount her horse without help, lost her balance and fell, breaking her back. Doctors recommended she did not take up riding again, but she would not listen and competed in her first Para equestrian competition with the South African team in 2002.
