Limb deficiency (paralympics.org.nz, 06 Jun 2019)

Origin of Impairment
Acquired (paralympics.org.nz, 26 Mar 2018)

Impairment Details
Her left hand was amputated at age five as a result of a lawnmower accident. "My brother and I were both standing on the side step of the mower, but after my dad went over a bump, I fell off and caught my hand in the blades. I recall lying on the ground, looking up at the clouds and dad picking me up like a rugby ball as he took me to the ambulance. I'm glad I lost a limb at such a young age because it's much easier to adapt to such a change as a child. My parents treated me just the same as my other siblings and there was no way I was going to let my amputation get in the way of what I wanted to do." (magzter.com, 26 Nov 2018; Facebook page, 13 Oct 2018; paralympics.org.nz, 26 Mar 2018)

General
OCCUPATION
She works as a guide at Waitomo Caves in New Zealand. "I have to get into the water and abseil down ropes and things like that so it's a lot of fun." (paralympics.org.nz, 06 May 2021; tvnz.co.nz, 23 Aug 2019)
