He was involved in wheelchair basketball before moving to handcycling. "A wheelchair basketball teammate convinced me to buy this used handbike. From there, I was instantly hooked on the sport, it was a natural substitute for marathon running as I love the speed of racing. Handbiking helped me find a way out of my crisis after my traffic accident. It allowed me to set goals - a reason to fight for something." He works as a motivational speaker in between races. "When the race calendar allows it, I give lectures in schools. I tell the story about my traffic accident and my struggle to 'come back to life', as well as visiting Danish rehabilitation centres for spinal cord injuries, where I try to inspire the newly injured with my story and accomplishments - and perhaps recruit new handbikers to our community."
