He took up the sport with friends, and also used to cycle to school. "I began cycling as a means of transport to get around my city [Araraquara, Brazil]. I always liked it. SANCTION
In January 2012 he was suspended for two years by the Brazilian Cycling Confederation [CBC] after testing positive for testosterone and other prohibited substances at two different races between June and July 2011. He returned to competition in 2014. "I did things I shouldn't have. I regret it. I didn't race for two years, I paid my dues and now I'm back and happy to be able to compete again." DAUGHTER
In 2005 his four-month old daughter died of a respiratory illness. He stopped competing for two years afterwards. "Nothing excited me anymore. I was racing, but not competing.
