She began competing in wheelchair racing at age 16. After winning a race, she was encouraged to switch to Para canoe by a coach who had seen her victory. "I didn't know anything about the sport, but I'd heard that it was included in the programme for the 2016 Paralympic Games for the first time, and that there were not a lot of athletes. I thought that there would be still possibilities for me to compete at the Paralympic Games, which I had given up on as a wheelchair marathoner. I felt like I'd found a new goal."
