His younger brother Jamie has also competed in boccia at international level. He represented Great Britain in the BC3 class at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, won both individual and pairs bronze at the 2019 European Championships in Seville, Spain, and won individual gold at the 2017 European Championships in Povoa de Varzim, Portugal. He decided to pursue the sport after learning there was a classification for players to use a ramp [BC3]. "I went to a multi-sports event for disabled people in my local area trying a number of sports. I always thought, 'I'll not be able to do it'. I was a thrower at the time and I couldn't throw that far. I didn't even realise there was a category where you could use a ramp to roll the balls. On a camp we went to, somebody got a bit of guttering from [DIY shop] B and Q, we cut it in half, somebody got one half and I got the other half, and that's how we started rolling the balls.
