She took up the sport as a way of accepting her impairment. "Badminton made me feel different. Para badminton on the other hand didn't. It made me realise that I am not the only one who has a disability. When I started, that meant a lot to me because I always felt different, but not anymore." (badmintoneurope.com, 17 Aug 2020)

TAKING A BREAK
In 2018 she took a six-month break from the sport after her mother passed away from cancer. "I started my Para badminton journey with her. Going to the Paralympics was our dream together. It's something we started together and it's something that I wanted to end with her, but I couldn't. I think that's the reason why I didn't want to play anymore. But I finally realised that I could do it and she's always with me. I have her ashes in my necklace so she can't get any closer than that. If you have thoughts about quitting and you don't know what to do, in your head the game doesn't work. If you're mentally not strong enough then competing doesn't make any sense. It's something that I had to work on for a very long time but I have to say that I'm mentally stronger now. I moved back to my hometown, I left the national training centre. I think that was the best thing to do for me so I could be back with my family again, see my friends a little more. I bought a house with my boyfriend, so we just started settling down and that makes me happier in life in general. That made me happier on court again." (BWF TV YouTube channel, 04 Aug 2021)
