Origin of Impairment
Congenital (parasapo.tokyo, 18 Dec 2018)

Impairment Details
He was born with Erb's Palsy, a form of paralysis in the upper arm due to injury of the nerves caused during development in the womb. He could not lift his arm above his shoulders. "I just loved, loved, loved badminton [growing up]. So I didn't think for one second that I should stop playing because I have an impairment. My right shoulder was weak, yes, but I didn't spend any time worrying about it." (parasapo.tokyo, 18 Dec 2018; asiaone.com, 27 Nov 2015)

General
EARLY DAYS
In 2003 he joined the able-bodied junior national team and soon after switched to the Para team. "I knew I couldn't do everything. That's why I decided on Para badminton. At the time, I was also starting to see that it'd be difficult for me to play at a top, world-class level in able-bodied badminton. I'm lucky. I can continue playing badminton and work towards my goals." (parasapo.tokyo, 18 Dec 2018; BadmintonWorld.tv YouTube channel, 19 Dec 2012)
