BREAK AND RETURN
He had hoped to compete in able-bodied javelin at the 2012 Olympic Games in London until an elbow injury ruled him out of contention. In reaction, he took time away from the sport and moved to Italy, and also spent time in New Zealand and Thailand. "As soon as I got out of the hospital I went to the airport and asked which was the cheapest flight. I did it without worrying about the destination, as long as it was far from England. I got on a plane that took me to Sardinia, I didn't even know where it was, but inside I felt I was headed for the right destination. I hired a kayak to explore the coast south of Cala Gonone. For eight days, I got my food from underwater fishing and slept on the beach. It was in that week that I was able to clear my mind and decide this would become my new home." He made a comeback to sport in Para athletics in 2019. "Returning to the sport in Para athletics has made me feel more positive about my eyesight and made me think differently about my disability." OCCUPATION
He has worked as a massage therapist at the Hereford Centre for Natural Health in England. "Being visually impaired I work intuitively and use the sense of touch to find and work out muscular tensions and dysfunctions caused from mental and physical stresses."
