He was an able-bodied baseball player at high school level. He competed in biathlon and cross-country skiing at the Paralympic Winter Games in 2010 and 2014. In February 2019, he ruptured his right wrist ligaments when fellow Para athlete Tatsuya Ito wrenched his wrist by showing him some aikido moves during training in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. He was supposed to undergo surgery, but decided to avoid it due to the long recovery period ahead of the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo. He required around five months of rehabilitation. He took up Para athletics in grade 12 of high school, and turned into a professional wheelchair marathon athlete in 2005. He switched from Para athletics to Para cross-country skiing and Para biathlon in 2007 and 2008, respectively.
