General
FROM ATHLETICS TO PARA ATHLETICS
Having competed as an able-bodied athlete since 2011 he made the decision to try Para athletics during a period in 2018 when he was struggling with a hamstring injury and his eyesight deteriorated. He was classified as a Para athlete in 2019. "People have been tremendous about me moving to Para athletics. I've had a lot of support. To go from normal athletics to Para athletics, I didn't know how it was going to go. You can't immediately see that I have a vision impairment. You have to look a little bit closer, to follow me a little bit, to see that. Some people thought I was faking. They didn't believe me at first. But most people have been very good and very supportive to me." (friidrett.no, 01 Mar 2021; insidethegames.biz, 30 Nov 2020)

FROM CONGO TO NORWAY
Born in Congo, he and his family moved to Norway when he was 11 to escape a civil war. "It was very hard as I only spoke Swahili and French. It was very difficult to adapt but I came through it in the end with the help of friends around me. Coming to Norway saved my life. My childhood was not about running or playing football, it was about finding food and surviving, so getting here was like winning the lottery and becoming a billionaire. Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined that I would have a roof over my head and food on the table every day. It was just like a dream." (insidethegames.biz, 09 Aug 2019; nrk.no, 13 Jun 2019)

OCCUPATION
He works as a maths teacher at a junior high school in Bergen, Norway. (insidethegames.biz, 30 Nov 2020; norwegianamerican.com, 25 Dec 2019; european-athletics.org, 21 Aug 2019)
