As a child she spent a lot of time outdoors so she was inclined to do sports. After her accident, coach Pablo Pena saw her in a wheelchair in Bogota, Colombia, and asked her if she was interested in trying athletics. She did not accept because the practice field was too far from her house. However, a year later she met Pena for a second time, and he once again invited her to start training. "He convinced me.
