She was invited to try the sport by coach Amit Kumar Saroha. "I had never thought about sports. I was always more into academics. That's the only thing I focused on all my life. Initially, I found training quite challenging because of severe quadriplegic disability. Also, along with my job, it was difficult to take out the time for practice. Impairment Details
She has paraplegia as the result of a road traffic accident in 2003. She was sitting in a parked car with six other girls when a truck overturned and fell onto her vehicle. REHABILITATION
She spent nine months in hospital following the accident that led to her impairment in 2003. "It was a very difficult time for me. It actually took a long time for it to sink in. I wanted to look at what was left instead of what was lost. And education played a huge role. Once I started studying again, slowly and steadily, normalcy too started coming in."
