"In addition to athletics, since childhood I have also been involved in football, draughts and basketball. Athletics was more of a hobby than a serious matter but I had to choose my own path and the teacher of our orphanage played a decisive role in this. She offered sweets for anybody who ran the autumn cross-country race. I was inspired and won, and got the chocolates.
