Originally involved in able-bodied basketball, he was encouraged to try Para athletics after a chance meeting with Irish Para sprinter Jason Smyth in December 2016. "He encouraged me to go to the Paralympic expo that was on in the following January so I said I'd go and see what it was like. After a couple of months, I decided on the high jump, partly because of my background in basketball where I always had a relatively decent jump. I tried it out and was good at it."
