He was inspired to take up the sport after seeing other athletes with an impairment training and competing. He initially started running, but since he had weak knee joints his coach advised him to switch to throwing events. "Sport helped me recover, and I knew that I was good at what I was doing. Training helped me tune in to a positive mood. At the age of 17, I could already start training professionally, and this strengthened me even more, because before that I weighed only 40 kilograms. Impairment Details

GIFTED WHEELCHAIR
In 2018 he mentioned in an interview with Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth that he needed a new wheelchair to compete in, but could not afford one. After reading the story, Israeli radio host Nathan Zehavi announced on air that he was gifting him a new chair. "I brought a chair from Ukraine [to Israel]. It was made specially for me, but it was already old and falling apart. And with such a chair, I may not have been able to compete. The new one cost 1800 Euros, and I don't have that kind of money." REPRESENTING ISRAEL

EARLY DAYS
When he was age 12 his parents were killed in a car accident, and he was sent to an orphanage in Luhansk, Ukraine. At first he studied in a regular school before he was transferred to a special boarding school. He then studied shoe making, and later found employment as an orthopaedic footwear designer.
