"I first encountered the sport through a junior camp, which had lots of different activities on offer. I tried archery and fell in love immediately. I've always had really bad hand-eye coordination and was like, 'You're probably not going to be great at this, Jess, but hey, have a go anyway'. I surprised everyone around me, including myself. I went back to try it again and it took off from there." (dmorthotics.com, 01 Sep 2016; themixedzone.co.uk, 20 May 2016)

CLASS SWITCH
She competed in her first world championships in the open compound category in 2019, after winning an individual world title as a W1 archer in 2017. "If I'm honest, it's quite exciting because I've gone from being at the top to being at the bottom and having to find my way back up. So, to be at the world champs so soon after changing, I'm actually quite pleased. It's proving that I'm making my own way in the category and that I'm fighting to get to the top." (bbc.com, 08 Jun 2019; archerygb.org, 07 Jun 2019; asianparalympic.org, 14 Apr 2019)

ORTHOTIC GLOVE
She wears an orthotic glove on her left hand to improve her hand posture and movement control. "My wrist used to get very tired during shooting. The reinforcement panelling in the glove gives support and helps to prevent my wrist from flopping down. I've worn it since the end of 2015 and I've noticed a big difference. My shots are a lot more accurate, my groups are a lot closer together and my scores have gone up." (dmorthotics.com, 01 Sep 2016)

OTHER ACTIVITIES
She has served as an ambassador for the British Inspiration Trust, which works to promote mental wellbeing among young people in Great Britain. "As a former student, and training and competing with young athletes, I know that many young adults suffer with mental health challenges. COVID-19 is having an impact on the lives of many young people and it is vital that they receive timely help to look after their wellbeing in order to avoid long-term effects."
