Her mother Valya DEMIREVA (BUL) ran in 4x100m relay at the 1988 OG and her father Krasimir DEMIREVA (BUL) competed in 400m hurdles at the 1991 WCh in Tokyo, Japan.

'I competed at a national schools tournament where a teacher noticed I had a talent for the long jump and told my parents I should find a club.'

'A coach noticed me at school competitions and invited me to do athletics.'

Her training was disrupted by the Australian bushfires of late 2019 and early 2020. 'Some mornings it was 30C and the skies were red. If I wanted to do a sprint session, I would drive up to an hour to find somewhere where the air was less polluted.'

She admits that she struggles to control her emotions when competing. 'Sometimes my emotions get in the way a bit. But I have already come to terms with this. I accept myself for who I am.'

Born into a Montenegrin family in Croatia, at age three she and her family moved to Cetinje, Montenegro, due to war in Croatia. In November 2019, she moved to Athens, Greece, for better training conditions ahead of 2020 OG. 'Don't give up, even when it's hard.'

'The secret of success is not a secret, everyone knows it, it's very simple. It is to love your job and give 100%, be grateful for what you have, while striving for even greater heights.'

At age 18 years and 11 days, she became the youngest athlete to win a medal in any field event at the world championships, when taking silver in high jump at the 2019 WCh in Doha, Qatar. She braids her hair in pigtails for every competition.

'My husband, Michal, told me that even if I mention returning to the sport, he will completely forbid me from it. My farewell will be in Tokyo.'
