Despite finishing on the podium at the world championships in 2014 and 2015, she did not make the Chinese team for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. "Everybody in my town thought I was going to make the team and already made the banners for me. I tried to do other things to distract myself from the disappointment. I did not want to talk to my family, I just wanted to keep myself busy but then I realised how difficult my parents' lives were and decided I must get up and go back to the gym.
