Her talent was spotted by coach Keith Morgan, who suggested she take up the sport. "I had never imagined myself as a weightlifter. I had done other sports like hockey, netball, and tennis, but weightlifting isn't exactly a 'usual' sport. I tried it as part of my training for pole vault and was told I would be good enough to go to the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi. I laughed, but I am very glad to have changed sports." BREAK FROM WEIGHTLIFTING
She took a break from weightlifting after the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, QLD, Australia, and decided not to compete at the 2018 World Championships in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. "I've had a few people ask me why I'm not competing at the worlds this year [2018]. I have plenty of reasons for pulling myself out, but the main one being that I just need a small break from competitions. I'm not one for going to a championship and giving a half-hearted performance. I like to give my very best on that stage and prepare as best I can. I don't feel I'm currently in a place where I can do that. Instead I'm doing some different CrossFit-style training which is providing me with a fresh challenge and some aerobic fitness."
