She was inspired to take up the sport after watching a Canadian movie about a young weightlifter called 'La Mysterieuse Mademoiselle C' [The Mysterious Miss C]. "When I was younger, I had a lot of energy to spend. I started figure skating classes, but after a few months I quickly discovered that I did not have much potential in that sport. I watched the movie Miss C, in which we discover a young lifter, and I fell in love with weightlifting." (Facebook page, 17 Oct 2018; olympic.ca, 11 Jun 2015; parcolympique.qc.ca, 12 May 2015)

NEW WEIGHT CLASS
After failing to qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, she moved from the 69kg category up to 75kg. She won gold at the 2017 Canadian Championships, and she has since moved to the 76kg category after the International Weightlifting Federation [IWF] introduced new weight classes in 2018. "We knew that new categories were going to be adopted, but we had no idea whether they were going to go up or down. Since the IWF announced the changes [in 2018], it confirmed to me that I had made the right choice. If I had stayed in the 69kg, I would be in trouble right now. Two options were available if I wanted to compete at the Olympics - either drop down to 64kg or go up to the 76kg." (rds.ca, 24 Oct 2018; radio-canada.ca, 18 Jul 2017; tvasports.ca, 01 Jun 2017)
