She first tried weightlifting at age 10 and began training at age 12. She started participating in national competitions at age 18. (sports.sina.com.cn, 11 Aug 2019)

Coaches from Anshan Sport School in the People's Republic of China went to her school to recruit athletes but she was not selected. She was unhappy with the decision and tried to contact the coaches from the sport school, who eventually gave her the chance to train in weightlifting.
