He followed his father and his uncle into the sport. "At the beginning it was more for fun, general training. As a child I tried a lot of sports. I did running, swimming, even played football. And I felt good in all these sports. Eventually, I chose weightlifting. When I saw the medal ceremony from the 2001 World Championships in Turkey when Szymon Kolecki won bronze, I knew that I wanted to experience moments like this. I wanted to be the best."
