Born in New Zealand, she moved to Hungary in 2014 to compete for Egri VK in Eger, Hungary, before becoming a Hungarian citizen in 2016. "I got to know the Hungarians due to Attila Biro, who worked for the New Zealand women's national team. I had a good relationship with him and contacted him before I signed for a club in Eger. What I knew about Hungary before was that they have a lot of good water polo players, that they love soups, and that it is terribly hot in summer and cold in winter. When I first told the assistant coach, Csaba Rull [Egri VK], that I would like to play for the Hungarian national team, I meant it as a joke, I didn't think it could come true one day."
