"My brother and my dad both played water polo, so I got my passion for the sport from them. After two years of swimming, they threw me a ball and I liked it. I like the combination of different factors. In water polo you have to excel physically and in you knowledge of the game. It's a very complicated sport. There are a lot of elements to learn and practise every day." (usawaterpolo.org, 12 May 2016)

FROM ITALY TO USA
In 2012 he decided to move to the United States of America from Italy so that he could study and play water polo. He had represented Italy at junior level before deciding to make the move. He has both US and Italian citizenship as his grandmother and mother were born in San Francisco, CA, United States of America. His grandfather, an Italian immigrant, and grandmother moved the family to Italy when his mother was 13 years old. He was invited to play for the Italian senior national team, but when he was told he would have to fly to Italy for practice almost every month, he decided to remain in California. "I wanted to come here and combine school and sport. Here you have the possibility to do it because the sport is inside the school. In Italy, it's very hard. It's either you study at a university or you turn professional." (calbears.com, 01 Jan 2015; ocregister.com, 12 Feb 2014)
