VOLLEYBALL IN ARGENTINA
He says he hopes volleyball can become as popular in Argentina as it is in the European countries where he has played club volleyball. He says he believes the Argentine national team may have to emulate the bronze medal achieved at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul if that is to happen. "In Europe I experience a different reality and I'm the same player for Argentina. We [volleyball] will have to live in the shadow until we get a great result or I'll retire knowing that I couldn't do anything for volleyball. PASSING ON EXPERIENCE
He says as an experienced member of the Argentine national team who has played at two Olympic Games [2012 and 2016], he aims to support younger players without overwhelming them with advice. "I try not to talk too much to the young players. Anxiety and feelings can run high at the beginning of a tournament. With that said, we'll have to be there to support them in everything. The veterans have to be calm. The first points of a match are always harder for the young ones or least experienced players and that's where the veterans have to be." WIFE'S SUPPORT
In April 2018 he married Argentine tennis player Paula Ormaechea, and he says she helps him to stay grounded. "I know that I have a very important role in volleyball and especially in the teams I play in, and I try to improve day by day and make my teammates better. They tell me that I'm the best, but I don't know if it's true or a lie, it's something that I don't directly see. I think the key is in the head and in the support. Having my wife close helps me a lot, it calms the moments of anxiety or when I go crazy, or when I drive her crazy. I realised that volleyball is not the only thing in life, I managed to change the way I see things, to live, to be with family, to be in my house, and that helps me a lot."
