She initially practised dance but was told at age nine that she was too tall to be successful. She then tried a number of sports, including basketball, athletics and swimming, but was inspired to take up volleyball after watching Japanese cartoon 'Attacker You!' which features the sport. "I had just won the Italian championship with Novara when national coach, Davide Mazzanti, called me and told me I would be captain. The captain role is never easy, you need to be responsible. I always look to solve all the problems within the team and keep it united. Being a captain means making the team relaxed inside the court as well as outside the court."
