She took up volleyball at Kwanthanze Secondary School in Kenya in 2016. (standardmedia.co.ke, 07 May 2020)
:
She originally trained in athletics, but was encouraged to switch to volleyball by her friend. "I was a runner and I loved the 400m race. I had no clue volleyball existed. In fact, I saw the ball for the first time at Kwanthanze Secondary School in 2016. My friend was a student at Kwanthanze and she asked me to talk to my parents about changing schools because I was a good height for volleyball. They agreed and I joined the school in 2016. Much to my parents' surprise, I was offered a full scholarship. I hated the game as I was not getting the concepts and it was very demanding, so I decided to quit. I packed my bag and wanted to return home. [National teammate] Sharon Chepchumba's attitude challenged me because she was very passionate and willing to learn. She was a former footballer and learnt volleyball very fast, so I felt challenged not to quit. I will also always be grateful to [Kwanthanze] coach Justine Kigwari because he never gave up on me."
