Her husband Reto Hug has represented Switzerland at triathlon and competed at the Olympic Games in 2000, 2004 and 2008. He also won individual bronze at the 2008 World Championships in Vancouver, BC, Canada and individual silver at the 2005 World Championships in Gamagori, Japan. Ahead of the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo she trained alongside Swiss road cycling national coach Michael Albasini. She also simulated the expected weather conditions in Tokyo during training camps in St. Moritz, Switzerland. "In order to get used to the heat and humidity in Japan, we sometimes swim in the indoor pool with a wetsuit, work with hot baths and a steam bath and, with Swiss Olympic, the Federal Office for Sport and Swiss Triathlon have now also set up a sauna tent in which we are able to cycle in appropriate heat and humidity."
