During a domestic race in Germany in August 2019, his left foot kicked the front wheel of his bike, leaving him with a severe cut and a dislocated big toe. He pulled out of the race early during the running phase, the wound required stitching and his foot was placed in a cast. As a result, he was unable to compete at the 2019 Olympic Qualification event in Tokyo, Japan, and resumed training later in the year. "It all started at age five in 1997. I learned to swim and joined the athletics and swimming sections at Lehrter SV. Since this was not enough for me, I started to do gymnastics together with my brother, before I finally got into triathlon in 2001." (justus-nieschlag.de, 16 Jun 2021)
:
To compete at the 2020 and 2024 Olympic Games. (endurance.biz, 29 Apr 2021)
:
"My training schedule is basically the same every week. I have five swimming sessions and four cycling sessions, and in total I'm training for 25 to 30 hours a week. I think it's around 20 to 25 kilometres in swimming, around 300 kilometres on the bike and 50 to 70 kilometres of running, and some gym and athletic workouts."
