EARLY YEARS
He credits his father for his support at the beginning of his career. "My dad was always involved in my training, despite the fact he worked as a doctor and was very tired. In the evenings, sometimes even after 21:00, we worked with him in the school gym. He threw balls for me, and I only hit in one corner, because the other wall was made up of windows. There was no net, so we stacked small benches. The court was for volleyball and shorter than a tennis court. We did that until age 14, then we started looking for an opportunity to train in Europe, for free. Initially, we considered Germany, but they accepted us in Italy. We flew with my dad, lived there for two weeks, then he left me for two-and-a-half months. Dad did not stop there and later coached my younger brother, Denis. I am grateful to him for his perseverance and patience in working with us. I wish every tennis player had such support from their parents." (ktf.kz, 21 Jun 2021)
