In his late teens he suffered from several bouts of glandular fever and had to stop playing tennis for about a year. In his early 20s he was diagnosed with chronic fatigue, which doctors thought might be related to his glandular fever diagnosis. (dailymail.co.uk, 09 Apr 2021; bbc.co.uk, 12 Nov 2020)

PERFECT PARTNERSHIP
He began playing alongside Rajeev Ram in men's doubles in 2019. In their first year the pair won the Dubai Championships in the United Arab Emirates and the Erste Bank Open in Vienna, Austria, and the Australian Open in Melbourne, Victoria, in their second. "We just get on really well on and off the court. That helps a lot and is something I didn't maybe appreciate was as important as it is before that. We're a great team, supporting each other well and getting the best out of each other. Our games match up pretty well, we've both got good serves. When we're playing well we're a very tough team to break and I think that puts a lot of pressure on our opponents. I don't think there's one massive thing, just a few things that have come together. We've got stronger the longer we've played together." (inews.co.uk, 19 Feb 2021)

EARLY DAYS
He studied at the University of Memphis in Tennessee, United States of America, after former Great Britain Davis Cup captain Paul Hutchins recommended him to a US recruiter. "I didn't have a high ranking and I wasn't playing much at that time so I couldn't have really committed to playing professionally then [due to the effects of glandular fever]. I was offered a really good scholarship, I didn't really have a ranking so I knew I wasn't going to have loads of good offers from the top schools coming in so based on that meeting alone I decided to just take a chance and go for it. It worked out well, I had a great time there." (dailymail.co.uk, 09 Apr 2021)
