ATTITUDE TOWARDS TENNIS
In 2020 he spoke about his feelings towards tennis. "I like to hit the ball, but playing every day against new opponents is unbearable for me. And when you lose, you still need to answer journalists' questions like, 'Why did you lose?' So go play on the court yourself, since you're so smart and think you can do better than me. I hate all of this. In team sports, you can go to the coach and say that you feel bad today and you cannot play. You can't do that in tennis." (sport-express.ru, 06 May 2021)

FROM RUSSIA TO KAZAKHSTAN
Having represented the Russian Federation at the start of his career, he decided that he wanted to switch nationalities in November 2016 and began competing for Kazakhstan in 2017. "I have been Russian all my life, but the federation never supported me. I was always the second, third or fourth choice. So I thought, 'Why should I play for them?' They helped others financially, but not me. But it's not just about money, it's also about encouragement. They would give everything to the guy who was number one and nothing to number three. I had a proposal to represent Kazakhstan, and I accepted it. But I have the map of St. Petersburg tattooed on my arm." (tennismajors.com, 28 Feb 2021; sportsdaily.ru, 30 Mar 2017)

UNDERHAND SERVING
He has used the underhand serve as a tactic to try and win points. "I do it only from the left side, because it is the only spot where I can make a drop shot." (ubitennis.net, 06 Oct 2020)
