WORLD FINAL DISQUALIFICATION
She was disqualified for repeated infringements during the +73kg category final at the 2019 World Championships in Manchester, England. She had held a 10-point lead over her opponent, Great Britain's Bianca Walkden, after round two of the final, but Walkden repeatedly forced Zheng out of the ring, meaning that she incurred penalty points and was subsequently disqualified. Zheng initially refused to leave the arena and later broke down in tears on the podium at the medal ceremony. Both she and her coach also claimed the refereeing was unfair. Zheng had previously beaten Walkden in the +67kg category semifinals at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. "I have been doing this sport for 16 years but this is the first time I have realised that a taekwondo match could be played like this. I wish the referee could have been fair in this competition."
