General Interest

General
Egypt secured their place in Tokyo by winning the 2019 All Africa Games title in Rabat, Morocco. They are competing at their third Olympic Games following appearances in 2012 and 2016.

The Egyptian team are still seeking a first victory in Olympic competition, having been eliminated in the first round in both London and Rio de Janeiro. At the 2012 Games they were defeated by the Netherlands, and four years later they lost 3-0 to Singapore.

Although Egypt have not been a significant force on the world stage, in recent years they have achieved progression at the world championships. In 2016 they ranked inside the top 30 for the first time, and at the next edition in 2018 they improved further, finishing equal 20th after competing in the championship division.

Continental competition is where Egypt thrives. Their 2019 All Africa Games triumph over Nigeria was their third consecutive title at the Games. They have been similarly successful at the African championships, and in 2018 won their seventh title at the tournament since 2000.
