General Interest

General
Serbia are making their debut at the Olympic Games in the team event. They secured their spot in Tokyo as one of nine teams to qualify at the 2020 World Olympic Qualification Tournament in Gondomar, Portugal.

On the world stage the Serbian team have not yet managed to make an impact. At the 2018 World Championships in Halmstad, Sweden, they entered the tournament in the second division, and won knockout ties against Chile and Luxembourg to finish ranked 37th overall. As of 2018, their best world championship result is a 16th-place finish in 2012, while they finished ranked seventh in 1995 competing as Serbia and Montenegro.

Serbia have also been unable to make much headway at continental level, and are yet to contest for a medal at the European championships. At the 2019 edition in Nantes, they won their opening match against Belgium, but defeat to Poland in their second group match saw them eliminated from the tournament.
