OLYMPIC SELECTION
He was selected to represent Canada in the men's singles tournament at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo after his compatriot Eugene Zhen Wang declined. Wang, who competed at the Games in 2012 and 2016, had won Olympic quota places for Canada in men's singles and mixed doubles at the North American qualification tournament in March 2020, but only accepted selection for the mixed doubles event.
