His older brother played the sport. He joined the national centre in Bordeaux at age 14, and two years later he joined the French National Institute for Sport, Expertise and Performance [INSEP]. General
RETURN TO FRANCE
In April 2021 he signed with French club AS Pontoise-Cergy TT after a short stint with German club TTC Neu-Ulm. "My experience in Germany was unbelievable. It did me some good to discover a new championship. I do not regret anything. And I had very good statistics, as I won more than 62% of my matches. We fell short of the championship play-offs. It's a pity. I have signed for one year with an option of an additional year, but for personal reasons I cannot stay longer in Germany. I return to the club I was playing with before going to Germany. It's an environment that I know very well. I do not exclude returning to Germany in the future. I would like to sign for a team that can play for the title. That's something that I keep deep inside my head." (actu.fr, 22 Apr 2021; lanouvellerepublique.fr, 29 Mar 2021)

RETIREMENT THOUGHTS
He considered quitting table tennis after failing to qualify for the 2012 Olympic Games in London, but credits his family for encouraging him to continue in the sport. "In 2012 [after failing to qualify for London], I was not well for six months, I didn't have the drive to go on with table tennis for another four years. I had self-doubts, but thankfully I was supported by the people around me, starting with my wife Marion." (blog.lefigaro.fr, 12 May 2016; leparisien.fr, 19 Apr 2016)
