He suffered an herniated disk injury in late 2017. He underwent surgery, which kept him out of competition for four months and continued to affect him throughout the 2018 season. (ittf.com, 05 Jan 2018; olympics.com, 09 May 2020; 20minutes.fr, 01 Mar 2019)

In 2012 he missed an Olympic qualifying tournament due to an ankle injury, which meant he was unable to qualify for the 2012 Olympic Games in London. (nrpyrenees.fr, 29 Mar 2021; olympics.com, 09 May 2020)

He took up the sport at age seven in Berat, France. (nrpyrenees.fr, 29 Mar 2021)

He began playing the sport when his father bought a table tennis table. "My father played tennis so I began with tennis at age four and continued playing until age 10. At the same time I began with table tennis at age seven. Actually, my father bought a table to play in the garden with my brothers. From age seven to 10 I played both tennis and table tennis. And I think that at age 10 my parents were just fed up of so much commuting to training and asked me to choose between them. I chose table tennis and so far I do not regret it." "I'm not afraid of anyone, even though I know I cannot beat everybody. Even if it is almost impossible, I always think I can win. This is what pushes me to perform." (20minutes.fr, 03 Oct 2013)

OLYMPIC EXPERIENCE
After missing the 2012 Olympic Games in London due to injury, he was then disappointed with his performance at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. He hopes to use his negative experience from the Olympic Games in 2012 and 2016 as motivation to improve his performance at the 2020 Games in Tokyo. "I qualified for Rio with ease and I wanted to take some sort of revenge for not qualifying for 2012. However, nothing went as planned. I am a big sports fan and I got distracted so much by all the star athletes around me. It was a bad moment because my games were so poor. At age 26 [speaking in 2021] is not the same as at 21. Now I know what to expect and even if I am still a fan of certain athletes, I no longer put them on a pedestal as I did five years ago [in 2016]. I do not say that things are going to go well this time but I would like to play my best game. And if that's the case, then there might be some good things to come afterwards."
