SUSPENSION
He received a six-month suspension from the Korea Table Tennis Association [KTTA] for disciplinary reasons after he threw his racket and broke a ball following his quarterfinals loss to Joo Se-Hyuk at the 2015 National Championships in the Republic of Korea. (asiae.co.kr, 20 Dec 2015; chosun.com, 21 Dec 2015; donga.com, 27 Feb 2021)

GERMAN EXPERIENCE
In 2011 he relocated to Germany to train for one year with German table tennis club TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen, before returning to the Republic of Korea. He also played for TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen during the 2018/19 Tischtennis-Bundesliga season. "Back then [2011], it was my first time in Europe and a bit of an adventure for me. I felt very much at home in Ochsenhausen and I met a lot of super people and made friends. Even in those days, it was one of my goals to one day play for TTF. That's why I was determined to give the club and Ochsenhausen something back. It broadened my view of my life as well as my sporting career."
